Distortion Coming Out of External Speakers? Please Help?

No sound coming from my speakers....Please help!?

  • My speakers on my Dell computer aren't connected right. One day they were working fine then the next they weren't. My dad took them to a computer engineer and they worked fine on his computer. So it's not the speakers themselves, It's the computer. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what. There's only one jack connected to the speakers. When i hook it up nothing plays, so i went to Control Panel, then Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, then i went to Sounds&Audio devices, then the volume Panel and it says theres no audio device! This is really stressing me out, I haven't had sound on my computer for over a month now! Please? Any assistance??

your sound card is probably shot. ask the retailer of your computer what kind of expansion port your computer uses and weather or not it has any spare ones, then go out and buy a decently priced one (that will last you awhile) that complies with their specifications. I would recommend buying a sound card from here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=57&name=Sound-Cards also, DON'T buy a soundmax! that is what I have right now, it sucks!

Reinstall Your sound driver. If you want me to get you the driver let me know what kind of computer you have.

Go to Dell's website and look up the downloads available for your make and model of Dell computer. Find the download for the audio hardware for your Dell that corresponds to the operating system you're running (XP or Vista, whichever). Download and install the drivers for your sound system and then you'll be prompted to reboot. Your speakers should be working after that. If not, you might have a problem with your soundcard.

Does your computer software need to be updated? This happened to me for a while, and it turned out that I just needed to download the latest updates, and then it worked fine. I'm not very technologically inclined so I don't know the exact type of software you might need, but usually your computer will notify you when there's new stuff ready to be installed. This is the best I can do for you, sorry!

Hi, I've had the same problem before. I recommend reinstalling your audio drivers, and if that does not work you may have a fried audio card on your computer and you will need to buy a new one (a standard PCI card normally goes for $20 in any computer store; some stores will install the card for you at no charge). Good luck!

Try looking for them under Control Panel>System Properties>Hardware>Device Manager and see if it even knows they are connected. Other stuff to check is the driver version, sound card functionality, and that all wires are plugged in in the correct spot. If none of that works, call Dell.

you say its not the speakers who are mucking up, go into start menu, all programs, accsessories and volume control. make sure the buttons are not ticked in the 'mute' section. there is also volume control bars in there too put them right to the top. hope i helped =)

There's probably a problem with the sound drivers. Take your computer to the computer engineer and tell him that he needs to install the sound drivers back. He'll know what drivers are and he'll get it fixed in no time.

Did you uninstall any hardware? You could try reinstalling your sound drive. Maybe your jack is broken. If you try other speakers and still get no sound then It's definitely the comp. And if all else fails, google it =D!!
