Hiding your IP address is difficult since you MUST include your IP address every time you visit a web site (otherwise their reply has no way of finding your computer). If you just want to browse the Internet anonymously, there are sites such as www.anonymizer.com which act as a go-between to hide your identity when surfing the net.

Hook up a router between your computer and modem. When you use a router, it strips the ip info and sends out your request. Your computer will actually be hidden as it will be behind the router as the information comes back. The router knows who made the request and directs the info to that specific machine. This will hide your computer's IP not your ISP's one hooked up to your modem. You need this information as info that you request has to have an address to come back to. Kind of like mail. No address, no mail.
