How do I get "you have mail" to show up on my screen?

The volume bar on my computer screen wont show up?

• ever since i got my laptop fixed (its a dell studio with windows vista) the volume works, but usually theres a blue thing on my screen (NOT my toolbar) thats kinda like ||||||||||| and it shows if my volume is going up or down, but now it doesnt show up with a change my volume. im wondering how i can get it back? also my dell dock, the bar at the top with my recycling bin, internet, mail, photos, etc goes away every time i turn it back on. i found out how to get it back but it never stays there. i always have to put it back when i turn my laptop on. help?

  The IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII bar you want to show the volume on the screen is normally controlled by the software settings for the keyboard. As this is a laptop there should be a Dell utility for configuring the settings osd the trackpad and keyboard. look for an option in the settings to allow you to view the volume bar on the screen and check the box.
