The best way to fix this is is to use the Windows CD that hopefully came with your computer. When you first turn your computer on, open the CD Rom and put the CD in there, then go from there, its really simple to do. I think you go to Install Windows, and it will show a table with the partition that Windows is installed on, there should be an option to repair that. Thats what you do... it will do nothing bad. Just make sure you have your registration Key found on the side or top of your computer tower. Or you can download Avast AntiVirus or SpyBot S&D but those won't fix the problem. The CD is the best way to fix that. There is no hardware problem, its just.. Windows is 'old' persay and needs a fresh start, the CD will do that. And don't worry, nothing will be deleted. Only fixed. Trust me, before i built my new computer, my old compaq was horible... Everytime i opened a program, the dialup would disconect. It took atleast 3 minutes to boot to the desktop. I repaired with Windows CD and it was like brand new.

what you need to do is probably add memory to your computer. To see how much you have go to control panel, click on system and on the bottom of the box it will tell you what kind of processor you have, what version of windows and how much ram you have. If you have xp , the max you can use is 2 gig....you need to check to see if your motherboard will support 2 gig,,,,it probaly will, and buy the right memory..the reason you're getting the lag, is because you don;t have enough memory and the cpu has to use the hard drive to write to then do the processing and then move on... If you hit control, alt, delete all at the same time you will see the windows task manager. click on the performance tab and on the right you will see "physical memory" and you can see what is available when you go into a program....it will also show cpu usage and when it hits 100% you will see the lag.... To get a faster computer cpu means putting in a new motherboard , cpu, and memory.,....it's almost cheaper to buy a new one...

First of all, there are many reasons why a computer may lag. A few (but certainly not ALL) are: ~Insufficient memory ~The hard drive is in need of defragmenting ~The computer is infected with malware or viruses ~There are too many applications being ran at once ~CPU getting too hot The first thing that you should know is how to monitor CPU usage. This is called task manager and it is accessible by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete. You should click on Performance and you will see a graph indicating how much 'strain' is on your processor at any given time. If your CPU usage is at 100%, then it means that it is working overtime and there is an application or processes causing this. If you click on the processes tab in the same task manager, you will see a list of processes running on your computer. You will be able to find which is taking up the most CPU resources. Most of these processes are self-explanatory such as firefox.exe (Firefox). By Googling 'processes'+'Windows XP' or the actual name of the process such as 'AppSvc32.exe', you should be able to find if the process is vital or not to the computer's stablity. Often times, you can just simply close whatever application is taking up the CPU resources and avoid ending tasks manually. If it is a memory problem, then you may look into upgrading to more memory. There are a host of applications and system monitoring softwares available to view the exact amount of memory which your computer has available and how much it has used. Upgrading memory may be an option if you are running low on RAM. Quite simply, the first thing you should do is try not to run too many taxing applications at the same time. Keep an eye on your CPU usage via task manager and avoid having too many windows open at once. Run a defrag on your HDD. It's quite simple as it's an option availble in XP via Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. "Repairing" your processor is probably completely unnecessary and is something that is usually useless as it's quite simple to buy a new processor and install it yourself with little effort. Try keeping it simple to start and checking how hard you're taxing your system. Hope this helps.
