How to get the First frame from Video file?

Can someone please help? :( I can't get an AVI file to play in Windows Media Player or WM Classic?

  • First, I should start off by admitting right off the bat that I know very little about computers. So little in fact, it's a bit embarrassing. :I I recently downloaded an AVI file that was huge, over 4 gigs in size in fact, which took quite a long time to download; days actually, only to find when I tried to open the file in Windows Media Player and Windows Play Classic that it would not play. In fact, when I try to open the file in Windows Media Player, I received the following message: "The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." And, when I tried to open the file in Windows Media Classic I received a message stating the player could not render the file. I did a bit of research online and most of what I have read recommended that I download a few different codec packs, which I did. I didn't download them simultaneously because I didn't want them to conflict with one another. I would just try one program, delete it once it didn't work and then progressed to trying the next program. I downloaded K-Lite, Windows Essential Media Pac, DVIX, and FFD Show codec packs only to be left with a file that still would not play. I also went into the setting of Windows Media Player and Windows Player Classic to ensure that the AVI extension box was checked as one of the extensions it would play and in K-Lite requested that it recognized all video extensions, yet the AVI file is still not playing. I should also mention I could not get the file to play in the DVIX player either. If anyone could give me an idea as to what to do concerning this matter, I really would appreciate. I just want to say thank you in advance for your help. I really do appreciate it. I just feel a bit embarrassed that after all of the time I have invested to get this video to play, I'm still unable to get it work.
