Computer Crash on Windows XP, White Screen with Black Lines?
-
I have a Windows XP, Service Pack 3 computer. It is an Emachines el1200-06w. I've had this computer for roughly four years now. I just recovered from a nasty virus (Internet Security 2012) about two weeks ago. I thought I had completely fixed it, since I ran McAFee, Malware Bytes, and another program to fix it. Today, I was on the web reading, and my screen suddenly went BLANK. Just a blank white screen with little black, skinny block lines that stack up diagonal up and down the screen. My computer will get to the WINDOWS XP load screen, but it'll stay there for a hour or more. I'm afraid that I've severely mess up my computer, and I just don't know what to do. Please help.

Answer:
1. (Easiest) Take it to a local computer technician if you don't know what you are doing. He/she will be probably be able to recover the data on your hard drive. 2. Try pressing F8 on boot and then select 'Safe Mode'. Boot into that and try running System Restore and returning it to a time when it worked properly. If it won't restore but you are in safe mode then put all of the things that you need on an external data storage of some description and go to option 3. 3. If you are fairly tech savvy then you can try to get the data off yourself and then run a full computer restore from the BIOS (There will probably be options there to restore it to factory settings. Pressing F8 before getting to the windows loading screen will give you Microsofts options or if that doesn't work then press either 'Escape' or 'Delete' as your computer is booting). You will lose everything unless you can find a way to get into your hard drive without turning the computer on (You can get adapters to put them into USB ports for about $45 AUD). If you don't want to lose everything but still want to restore then Safe Mode might be your answer.
