How to improve video resolution?

Does high resolution on an old computer affect video play and font size?

• I have a 19-inch monitor with a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. I have thought about lowering it to 800 by 600, which is the lowest I have, if that will improve video performance. It's an old monitor, one of those big heavy ones, not the new kind. My computer is Intel Pentium 4, CPU 3.00GHz, 1.8 GB RAM, RADEON 9800 PRO. I thought a computer of this capacity - CPU 3.00GHz and 1.8 GB RAM - would be powerful enough to play all videos. Most of them are OK but there are some which freeze. I don't know what the problem is. And does resolution affect font size? The text is very small on my monitor. In the DPI scaling, I have changed to Large Scale (120 DPI) to make the text more readable but it's still very small. I thought may be lowering the resolution to 800 by 600 might help solve the problem; may be also improve video play. I use Windows Vista.

  No. almost not affect. Size of movie is most relevant factor in playing movie, resizing movie to your monitor resolution almost have no influence on cpu usage. If U play DVD then subtitles will be small cos subtitles on dvd are fixed size images(maybe some players can enlarge it), if U are playing divx with external subtitle, then just adjust font size in your player
