What is the difference between public Internet and private intranet ?

moreover, not always but quit often whenever i'm opening net on my computer (with opera) this message is showing : "Warning: Cross Network Request! Warning http://...[the link of our IP address] A page on the public Internet requests data from your private intranet. For security reasons, automatic access is blocked, but you may choose to continue. Continue Always continue when data is requested from this server on my private intranet" what is the meaning of it ?
