Your monitor isn't working. Check the connnections and make sure it's plugged in.

It seem that your desktop's has been hijacked with some kind of spyware. I don't know which one but might be you hit by "Desktop.C Hijacker". You can also confirm it by uisng any of good software such as NoAdware. You can download the noadware software :- http://www.noadware.biz.ly

I am a computer technician and we use basic troubleshooting to determine the problem: 1) Try connecting another monitor 2) Make sure your monitor is recieving power 3) Try connecting your monitor to another computer. Doing one or all of these will yeild the problem. which is probably either your monitor, video card, or PC not booting up.. if you see lights blinking on the box while it is powering up (hard drive activity) then its probably a display issue.

When you say it goes on and it's working, how do you know? Sound? Can you interact with the PC in some way? Check to make sure the monitor plug isn't loose into the back of the PC, and that the monitor power cord is plugged in tightly as well. Do you see the POST info when you first turn your PC on (where it detects memory, hard drives, etc. before Windows starts up)? If so, and it goes black when Windows starts, try pressing F8 right after the beep when first turning on your computer - this should show a menu with "Safe Mode" as an option. Select "Safe Mode" and, when Windows boots up, lower your refresh rate and possibly resolution, then reboot and see if that helps. If your refresh rate is set higher than the monitor will support, the monitor will usually go into hibernate mode as if it doesn't have a signal. If you don't see the POST messages, and the cables are all tight, you may just need a new monitor.

make sure all your connections are good, unplug monitor and plug it back in, unplug video card (if not part of the motherboard) clean the slot, replace it. Try another monitor.... Try the monitor that is not working on another pc (that you know works) hopefully something in there helps you understand whats wrong

I think you have inadvertantly changed the settings of your dislay adapter/ graphics card. You can still open your desktop screen by running on safe mode.
