Why aren't any programs opening on my computer?

Computer programs not opening by default?

  • Whenever i put in a DVD to watch or plug my camera into my computer to upload some pictures, the programs dont open by default like they used to. Now i have to manually open the programs up. How can I make the programs open automatically again?

  • Answer:

If you have XP Pro, you can use gpedit.msc. Run it from Start > Run. Go to system in gpedit, open "Turn off autoplay" and change it to disable, because you don't want it turned off. You may still need to set the behavior manually for each disk, but I think it will go back to giving you the prompt when you insert a disc into your DVD drive. If you don't have XP Pro, do it manually for each drive. Right click each drive from My Computer and go to the autoplay tab and set the behavior you want for each type of disc. You'll obviously have to plug in your camera to change the settings on that. I hope this helps.
