How do I get a video from windows movie maker off the computer?

How to open video format in Windows Movie Maker?

  • Ok so I have a Windows XP with Windows Movie Maker on it. I know how to get the files from my computer and everything but it doesn't always open. We have two digital cameras and the Canon PowerShot A70 videos on the computer open perfectly into WMM. However, we also have a Kodak EasyShare V550 and those video files are the ones I have trouble uploading. The pictures from the Kodak work fine too, it's just the videos. I've noticed that they have different file formats. Canon=.avi Kodak=.mov So my question is: 1. Is it even possible to open .mov files in WMM? -OR- 2. Is there any way to transfer the .mov files to a format I can open with WMM? All help's appreciated :)

  • Answer:

download.com has many tools for video editing and conversion. Look there under the video category, and i'm sure you'll find something useful. I use a program known as Super that I downloaded from there. It can convert just about anything to anything else.

.MOV files are used for QuickTime and are not compatiable with DirectShow (The underlying component that allows use of the video in WMM). You must first convert them, with something such as Quicktime Pro.
