How do you record ppvs on to your computer?

PLEASE HELP ME RECORD MY VOICE ON THE COMPUTER?

  • Hello I am trying to read books and record them on a CD using my desktop. I need to do this for a job but I have never recorded anything on my computer. I don't know how to save my voice while I am reading the books and then copy it to a CD. I have a microphone which works fine and speakers to listen to what I am reading but the problem is that when I tried the Record option from Entertainment in the computer menu (Windows XP) I could only record my voice for 1 minute each time. It won't let me read for hours, just 60 seconds. I don't know if I need to buy extra software, other than what the PC already has, made especially for recording purposes in order to make the recording last longer so I won't have to do it in 1 minute segments which will be impossible if I am reading 300 pages! If there is such software, can I get it on the internet? Or how can I change the setting on the recording device that is ALREADY in my computer to make last for hours? Please HELP ME!

download audacity its an audio program that is free (see link below) it allows you to record your voice for as long as you want and you can edit your audio later if you make any mistakes. Its a great program but does take a little while to get used to but I'd say after a couple of hours using it you'll be fine. Once you've recorded your voice and edited it you can save it as any type of audio file you like eg: WAV or MP3, you can save this file to your desktop and then just drag that file to a blank cd and then burn it. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

you can change sound recorder to recorder for longer than 60 seconds. i have included a video showing you how to do this in my sources. if you have never done long-length readings before, you should split your files up by chapter or number of pages. do not make one giant recording, because if you make a mistake somewhere, its alot more difficult to edit that section and cut in a new part than to simply re-record that one section and put them all together in the end.
