How can I escape the graboid video download limitation?

Help with my gif and video download?

• i've made gifs before, but lately GIMP has been being diffucult. I use Google Chrome, and just use an extension to download a video (see pictures below) http://i42.tinypic.com/s45gtl.png or if you can't see it.. http://tinypic.com/r/s45gtl/5 it download the whole video in HD like it should, but when i bring up gimp -go to video-->split video into frames-->extract video range--> video range it only bring up 1:33 of the video, not the full 3:37 it's the whole video on the computer, and it's done this with other videos, yet all downloaded to .MP4 it's not like this is the first video. i've use mp4 and downloaded HD vids with this extension, but GIMP just has problems and other times it says it doesn't recognize the format of the video, yet it's in MP4 please help! -.-

  You are making a common mistake/assumption that a mp4 is a file and they are all the same. A mp4 is a container (think of a folder that holds files and not a file itself). I will give you an example, I have a box that will stream almost any video type to my TV. Oddly enough it will only play 3 audio types. So rather then convert the entire HD movie (which can take hours) I just tell it to copy the video (which is an avi) and just remux the audio (which only takes minutes) to a type my box will play. Now for the output type, I select mp4 for it to use and not avi (lol long story) anyway..... So if you tried to do anything with it (cuz it is a mp4 now) you would get a "does not recognize the video format" message, cuz it is really just an avi that resides in a mp4 "container" and not a mp4 "file".
