What is the proper way to open a laptop lid?

How can I stop shutdowns from closing the lid for a while?

  • My laptop obviously goes into sleep mode when I close it, and that's good. I WANT TO KEEP THAT. (A lot of other google searches only led me to taking that away.) So anyway, here's my question: How do I stop my laptop from SHUTING DOWN when the lid is closed for a few hours? Sometimes, it even shuts down if the lid is open, but the computer has not been in use for a few hours. Basicly, I want it to stay on, no matter what. (While still allowing sleep mode when the lid is closed.) It's really annoying to have to reopen and restart everything I was working on, jus because I have to leave the house for a while. Is there any way to keep it on? I've already tried messing with the power options, and that was no help. I might have missed something, though, so I'm open to answers! Bt the way, I tried posting this question before, and someone just said something like "go to battery settings it is there" when I already said I've been to those settings, and it WAS NOT THERE. So help me please!

  • Answer:

If you are using Windows 7 as your operating system, then go to the location as follows: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\System Settings and find When I close lid option, and choose "sleep". Then click save changes. Hope your problem is solved.
