What Are Cookies... What Sites Need Cookies To Be Enabled?

So i set my cookies to like high... and i noticed that... most sites dont work like yahoo answers, youtube... basically any site i need to log in to view stuff doesnt work to keep a... username... experience... What else needs cookies to work? And what are cookies? And why does some people say they are virus' are they wrong? DO WE REALLY NEED COOKIES?

Some cookies will keep track of your log in for you. To ensure websites work properly you might want your setting on medium so it will block other cookies. Some people just don't like cookies that keep track of their computer use and browser use. Facebook uses a cookie that really violates privacy or at least they did. It tracks your browser history after you logged off of their site and some people just though they went to far. If you use facebook use CCleaner to view cookies in Flash. Edit-in my opinion some cookies are spyware such as the facebook cookie I mentioned that will report your location without your knowing it as some cell phone users have discovered. I still leave my setting on medium but block anything facebook has on both my browser and flashplayer
