How can torrent clients send data without a server?
-
My question is simple, how can torrent clients like utorrent, bittorrent etc... send data directly to other peers, by this I mean without first sending the data to a hosted server? This seams to me unlogical as the seeder sending the data to a peer is not hosted to the internet, meaning it can not host content to the internet without a "hosted" server, or a static ip. We know that emails need email servers, general content need ftp servers, but torrent clients seems to be able to send data directly, then how? thanks.

Answer:
There are "servers," but the only information they hold are connections. They are called "trackers," and they keep track of active connections and torrent clients use them to contact other peers. Once clients are connected to a peer, they just send the information.
