What is wrong with my Desktop?

What is wrong with my desktop? Why can't I click any icon or even right-click?

  • I have an unusual problem with my desktop. When I try to click any desktop icon nothing happens. Nothing happens also when I try to right-click with the mouse on the desktop. It seems that my desktop is invisible to the mouse. The start menu works fine. I still can access my Desktop folder in the Documents and Settings Folder through the Start Menu, but not all desktop icons are there. This computer is in a network, it is used by three users, and has Windows XP Service Pack 2. Another strange thing is other users don't suffer from the same problem as I do.

    I think Your Computer is infected from a virus. try Installing Anti Virus.My freind Got same problem . his desktop got no icon. no left clicks , no right clicks.He tried everything and the he formated his hard drive and installed the OS back.

hmmm...let's see here: first, check on your mouse settings if everything is working fine (might be the mouse settings) second, seems to me your user profile in WinXP is corrupted.so i suggest that you back-up all your files/data in a safe place (a couple of CD-R discs would do the trick) third, have an I.T.guy (one who knows WinXP very well) take a look at it and see if he says the same thing as i do. you say that the other users can use this desktop PC without any problem at all, so my guess is that your profile was opened by someone else and that someone did something awful to your user profile, so now you can't use your desktop PC whenever YOU log-in to it.
