Ebay question? should i leave negative feedback? see details?
-
2 weeks ago i bought a mac eyeshadow set off ebay. the way the item was advertised i just presumed that the seller had the item in hand. after 2 weeks i hadnt heard anything so i mailed the seller to see if the item had been shipped yet. i got a reply stating that they had refunded my payment as this item was no longer available at mac and they were unable to order it . now i'm sorry if i'm being ignorant here but the reason i ordered if off ebay is cos i knew the item was sold out at mac stores and online. if it hadnt have been then i would have bloomin gone direct to mac wouldnt i ??!!!! surely if someone is advertising something that they don't actually have they should make this clear ?! hey what the hell i think i'll go on ebay and advertise a piano for sale and then when someone orders it i'll think about ordering one in !!!!?? should i leave negative feedback ? or is the seller well within their rights to have done this - it doesnt seem right to me. thanks

Answer:
I have a business on Ebay and I would never list an item I knew I didn't have to sell - what an absolutely ridiculous thing to do - thanks for your custom, one problem, I don't actually have the item! Never mind, I shall give you a refund. To be honest, I would bother with feedback - whatever you give they will only give you back - even though you haven't done anything wrong! Don't expect someone who is selling something they don't have to be reasonable! Just leave it - most of the time Ebay is a great place but as with anything - there is the odd weirdo. Clearly, this seller isn't in the business of making money - LOL!

Happened a few times to me. If they've refunded the full amount with no fuss then I just leave a neutral, stating what happened.

Leave a nuetral and comment. You got your refund. That's the biggest issue.

I'd say that you are well within your rights to leave negative feedback. Even though they did refund you your money, they didn't give you the full information (as you said) about the item. By leaving negative feedback, you are warning other potential buyers about your experience with the seller and they may consider more carefully before purchasing from them. There is definitely no harm in leaving negative feedback - just write it fairly.

I think that you are absolutely right to feel misinformed about the item. You should leave negative feedback (the trouble there is that the seller might also leave a negative for you if they haven't already done so). You are right to assume that the seller actually has the item for sale when you are bidding on it. P.S. If you put that piano on ebay, i'll bid for it!

you should first air issues with the seller. I have bought things that were ordered from Another country ater i placed the order,, that's standard practice in Business As they have refunded your money , i think it would be unfair to leave negative, you should really be going for neutral feedback explianing your issues.
I agree that you should leave neutral as opposed to negative as the seller has refunded you without any fuss or issue. I had that happen to me and I was very angry too as I had been given the impression that the item was in their possession. I left calm, neutral feedback and that was the end of that. If you leave negative feedback then you're bound to get it back. After all it's not like they took your money and didn't give it back.

In these cases I try to leave a neutral comment along the lines of "item not in stock. Unable to complete transaction. Refund given." If I was being ignored by email and actually had to file a claim with Paypal I'd probably leave a negative, otherwise I usually give the benefit of the doubt - I've had quite a few winning items not delivered due to "lack of stock" - it's not uncommon. I still don't know how they get away with listing stuff they don't physically have in their possession. I've known some sellers give a retalitory negative comment even for a neutral one, which isn't especially fair. Some sellers certainly feel like they can bully buyers into not leaving a negative, which I don't agree with. If in doubt, then this comment by Bambi's mother is probably most apt: "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all". Just don't leave any feedback! It's not a legal requirement or anything!

I'd leave a neutral if you got your money back and explain in brief when leaving the feedback why something along the lines of ' Was refunded as item was not available told after 2 weeks wait' Try to leave things nicely as theres a chance they may neg you to just to be funny back!
