How do I copy multiple file names?

Is there an easy way to copy file names as text?

  • Answer:

You can open a cmd (dos) window in the directory you want to list. Type in the command dir>dir.txt. This will "pipe" the output of the dir (directory) to a file called dir.txt.

Lister is a small tool that scans your collection of media files and creates a nicely organized HTML page, that contains a list of all files, sorted by artist, album etc. In addition to the HTML output, it also creates a XML file. The output can optionally be completely customized with XSL files. Lister supports MP3, ASF, OGG, RealAudio, RealVideo, AVI, MPG, WMA, WMF, and VQF formats. get it here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/lister.html

There sure is, a program called DDFile can do that. Their site has more information but I'm not sure that this is exactly what you were looking for, http://www.ddfilecatcher.com/copy_file_names.htm (30 day trial) but if you only want to do one or two files that way, the first suggestion will work as well but if you want 50 files or so then this one is your best bet.

Open Start>run , type cmd and hit return. Now if your cd drive is d:, type tree/a d: > c:\a.txt (any file name instead of a.txt ) find and edit the file in notepad Syntax for tree is tree [drive] [path] or you can use dir/s dir/s > a.txt
