Why does my iPod sync but say there are no songs?

Songs in iPod are gone, but not the pictures?

• I own an ipod photo and today a friend borrowed my iPod. After an our or so, she returns my iPod only to find out that the songs are gone! The "music" option isn't even there anymore. What confuses me is that the photos are still intact and whenever I attach my iPod to my computer and sync the songs, it will say that it's done updating, but the songs still won't appear in my iPod.

  I honestly can say I have no idea how that would happen, unless she tried to plug it into her computer and iTunes wiped the library. First, I'd try just doing a reset (turn the hold switch on then off, then hold menu + select), and see if that brings them back. If that doesn't work I'd suggest plugging it into your computer, and doing a restore on your iPod to wipe everything off of it, and then re-sync it.
