How to do a minimal install using Bower?

I'm using VMware to install virtual XP on my Windows 7. Can I install the XP OS from my old PC without a disc?

  • I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) Trying to install XP Pro SP3 currently residing in my old puter. Using VMware Player - http://www.vmware.com/products/player/overview.html The installer recommends a disc but lists other options that confuse me.

  • Answer:

vm player is ok, but i would recommend oracle vm virtualbox. It allows you to snapshot you vm, which vmware doesnt. definately use oracle.. way better. you can NOT install an os on vm player. vm player plays an existing virtual machine, all you can do is add programs to it. http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.6/VirtualBox-4.0.6-71416-Win.exe you WILL need install media for xp but thats everywhere with a little bit of searching. virtualbox is pretty intuative, but shout if you need any help. ............................ one other thing to note. your bios may support virtual hardware but as default it is not enabled. make sure you enable this, it will let your vm use more cores on your pc and speed it up considerably. .............................. Penfold is kind of right, but home premium is excluded from that xp vm. you need pro or ultimate to use that

I think there is a legacy mode in Windows 7 that allows you to run XP programs. You might have to download something but I'm sure it works as my aunt uses it to run her old XP stuff on windows 7.
