Why are Windows Media Player slowing down?

Why wont Windows Media PLayer play DVDs anymore?

  • I have Windows XP Home, and I used to be able to play DVDs on it (via Windows Media Player no problem), but then suddenly one day I tried to play a DVD and it didn't play it. I later tried it with one of the DVDs I had played on it before and the same thing happened. Every time I try to play one a window pops up which reads as follows: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." on WinDVD I can play DVDs but only by going to "Playlists" then openning the DVD drive and openning the video folder, selecting all the video files and then, only then will it play the video... I haven't used WinDVD much, but I don't really like doing all of that in order to be able to see a DVD on my computer... I'd appreciate it if anyone can tell me why this happens now and how I can fix this problem, don't know how legal is DivX and how helpful it is with its decoder and if it can solve my WMP issue. Thank you.

  • Answer:

fix your default player. Choose the player that can play all types and format of video.

you'd come out better using either umplayer or vlc player. With those you don't have to deal with codecs and decoders. It will make your life a whole lot easier.
