I have a H.P. and i believe the sound card is intergrated on the motherboard. I don't know where to look if i have the sound card.

Because of a lack of very important computer information this is a very hard question to answer so I will assume that you have integrated sound. Next, you have no idea how many companies work on computers that can really mess things up. If you walk into the place and see no computer reference books or diplomas stating that at least one person is A+ or Microsoft or Linux certified then you are taking chances as they are more than likely computer hobbyist that think they know everything. When what they really know is enough to be dangerous. Sorry if I sound mean but I see it all the time. Take it back to them and tell them to get your BIOS straight so your motherboard can see its integrated sound and that way XP will pick it up. You might also have motherboard drivers on a CD that need to be installed and that is where the drivers are for the sound card. However, I do not see XP not picking up your integrated sound and that is why I think it is a BIOS issue. Edit update: If you do this yourself you might void your warranty. Let them do it, you paid the money make them earn it.

You'll need to reinstall the driver. From the sounds of it you're going to have to have someone do that too.

Try looking in "Device Manager" and if the icon has a red X over the sound card, then you should try to enable it. Also perform a system diagnostic that came with Windows XP. If you need more help, I will try to help you via e-mail. Good Luck. Also make sure that your protective software is enabled. I was lucky to have noticed that mine was off after I did a System Recovery.

if you had to reinstall your XP you might need to reinstall your sound card driver. to do this you need to insert your Drivers and Utilities CD that came with your Computer and reinstall the sound card driver

right click my computer icon go to properties then go to hardware then device manger if you see anything for audio with a yellow explanation point your audio drivers need to be installed. Good Luck.

If it is integrated on your motherboard, you need to reinstall the mb drivers via the motherboard cd. I'm sorry you paid so much money for what could just be a simple reinstall but think of it as a tuition fee. HP usually have a system disk for you to run; if not, contact them and if they refuse support, drag their name through the computer press in your search for an answer.

Go to the HP website. In the support section, look for Software and Drivers, it will tell you to enter the model number. for instance: Pavilion 511n From that, look for the Audio driver for that computer. You are right though, for my HP, the Audio driver is not there. Maybe you have to make the other drivers work first, then restart. Then use the Microsoft Windows Update feature and check the NEW Hardware drivers section. My major bone to pick with HP is that the computer should have COME WITH the restore CD. You can order this.

To check if your sound card drivers are installed properly right click on your "My Computer" icon, choose properties. A system properties window will come up, click on the hardware tab, and the look for and click on "device manager", scroll down the list and look for "Sound, video and game controllers. If you see a Exclamtion point or question mark next to your sound contoller there is a problem with it, the driver may need to be reinstalled or there is a hardware problem. If the ? or ! are there double click on the item and choose reinstall driver, making sure that your Originall system CD is in your CD drive. If that does not work you can download drivers for your PC from hp.com, using the Model and Serial # of your computer.
