Answer:
Installing Ubuntu as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wubi You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application. Boot in to windows insert the Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where the Wubi installer comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Ubuntu (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it. Once Ubuntu is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Ubuntu Ubuntu 10.04 Download http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) User Guide http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Lucid Linux Mint 9 has a similar feature called mint4win and the directions given above for Wubi can be followed Linux Mint 9 Download http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=52 Linux Mint 9 User Guide Download pdf. http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_isadora.php Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint 9 can also be run straight from the LiveCD without touching your Hard drive If you do not have a CD/DVD Drive the Wubi installer is available as a standalone download (not available for mint4win) http://wubi-installer.org/ HowTo Install C and C++ Compilers in Ubuntu and testing your first C and C++ Program (also applies to Linux Mint) http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-c-and-c-compilers-in-ubuntu-and-testing-your-first-c-and-c-program.html LUg.

for that you have to create and Empty partition of atleast 20GB, you cant place both OS in One Drive, you have to create another, so that you can run Both on urr laptop. Do it from Disk partition and shrink it to 20gb atleast, and you can instal Linux in that drive. Easy, no Problem Dude! Go it

Its really easy to do that. when your installing whichever distro you choose, when you get to the part about where to install, there is most likly going to be an option "install side by side with my current OS". Some distros don't have this yet, most do. If its not an option, then select that you want to do the partitions yourself and set it up like this: 1. shrink the windows partition by the size you want your linux part to be. leave all other partitions the same. 2. in the new unused space create a new partition, in the popup menu select the filetype as "SWAP". make this 3-4gb. swap is the virutal ram on the hard drive linux uses for overflow. 3. in the rest of the unused space create a new partition, choose EXT4 as the filetype (or EXT3 if its not there). make the mount point just "/" and make it as big as possible, this is the actual partition linux will use. now just hit continue, it will do everything from here. when you turn on your computer you will get a menu that you navigate with the arrow keys that lets you switch between linux and win7. other partitions (like recovery partitions) will also show up in the menu, so don't be afraid if theres more then those 2. Linux is totaly awsome, so much better then windows. even though i greatly prefer linux, i keep windows on for solidworks and labview and visual studio. there are c++ compilers in linux, so you don't need to worry about that.

Yes, you can do this. You will need to down load the Linux distro that you want first, then burn it to a DVD/CD. You can also install Ubuntu in a folder in Win7. If you do this you won't have to partition the hard drive. Go to the Ubuntu site and down load the installer. If you want a different distro, then you will have to do a full install from a disc. Either way, you will have a different boot loader to deal with as well. Follow the link to get the windows installer for Ubuntu. That way you don't have to download the ISO and burn it to CD or put it on a USB stick.

Just install Linux without formatting any drive or having dual boot on virtual pc. Just install "Microsoft Virtual PC" from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=en By using this you don't need to either remove windows 7 from your pc or having the dual boot.

You can install ubuntu to it's own partition and the best part is you can start the install from within Windows... Just go grab the ISO and burn it to a disk then let the auto run launch the disc... After that it will resize windows partition and it should even add itself to the boot loader.
