Using photo-shop "match colour" for skin tones from 1 photo to another but simply cant get it to work

  • i'm new to photoshop. Tried using its help feature but still cannot get it to work.

  • Answer:

Color match is NOT the method to use for retouching or to match skin tones UNLESS the photos were taken at the same location under similar lighting conditions. (To match radically different images try "healing brush and "photoshop retouching skin-tone matching" in a search engine, or if you can learn to use "masking" (an advanced topic) then you might still be able to use color match) Here's how to use color match anyway. The Color match command can be used in 2 ways depending on what you are matching: 1. you have two separate image files. or... 2. you have one photoshop file that has both images using "layers". I'll describe method 1 first then add a note for method 2. Open both images in photoshop. start with the image you want to change and go to image, adjustments, match color (in the menu bar that runs across the top of the screen). The "match color" dialog box appears. in the bottom half of this dialog box set "source" from none to your source document (you can choose any OPEN document). note: if you were using method 2 (i.e the method with more than 1 layer) then you would simply select the source layer under "layer". Click OK and you're done. IMPORTANT NOTE: if you have followed these steps and it's still not working then it's probably because photoshop automatically creates a layer for your image (when you open any image) and then locks it as a background layer. To get around this you must double-click the background layer icon in the layers palette. (to open the layers palette simply go to "window", layers (in the menu bar that runs across the top of the screen). by the way I teach photoshop courses in London at http://www.londontechtraining.com
