How to restore windows 7 without losing data?

Can you just install Windows again without losing data?

  • I have a copy of fake Windows and have obtained a CD of XP SP3. Will I lose my data?Do I have to backup something? How will I install?

  • Answer:

Yes. You will need to back-up your files because you will need to format before you install another windows. Formatting means erasing everything on the disk. Steps: -Put in the Windows CD -Restart the computer -Press a key when it asks you to (the disk will then load) -Make sure all your data is backed up, then delete the "Local Disk" partition (usually called C:) -Create a new partition (don't change the size) -Press the key to install windows -It should ask you to format, choose normal formatting, not fast -Then you can install windows There is one way you could make another partition after reducing your main partition's size, copy all your files to that, and re-install windows on the main partition (using format not re-format) but it's difficult and you probably wouldn't get it right without me being there.

There are ways to install windows without losing your data. The simplest would be to back it up on an external drive or network share if you have one available. If not, you can install another hard drive and install there. You will be able to browse all the files on your other hard disk once the install has completed.

If you do a clean install, everything will be deleted. If you are upgrading from an older version of windows to an newer version, then the data will remain. Example: Windows 98 to Windows XP. You should probably backup the important files to another Hard drive and then perform the clean install.

Back up all your data files or move them to another drive if your hard drive is partitioned. Installing Windows will format your entire C:, and erases everything on it and then installs Windows on your C:. So back up your data into another hard drive or burn your files onto a disk.

that all depends.. if you are Upgrading, then no, you wont lose anything.. (but create a restore point before performing) if you are formatting and installing, then yes you will lose EVERYTHING

YES! IF YOU HAVE 2 PARTITIONS OF YOUR HARD DISC. STORE ALL YOUR IMPORTANT FILES IN THE PARTITION WHERE WINDOWS SYSTEMS FOLDER IS NOT INSTALLED. THEN BOOT THE WINDOWS XP/VISTA CD AND INSTALL WINDOWS

Just back up ur files and reinstall.....or if u just want to format the drive in which the windows is loaded, just copy whatever u need from the main drive to the other drive.

This kind of restorations will erase all your data, it doesn't recover or save anything; it resets your PC to factory settings, so back up all your stuff before you try to do this
