How do i get rid of a second icon?

How can I permanently get rid of a desktop icon?

  • I recently installed an update for the program CyberLink YouCam, that runs my laptop's webcam. The problem is, everytime i reboot my computer, the program icon reappears on the desktop, when the icon was deleted before thecomputer shut down. There is no option in the settings panel of the program to remove a desktop icon. How can I get this annoying and reappearing icon to go away?

  • Answer:

Right click start Click properties Click taskbar Click customize Locate the icon highlight and change to always hide

try emptying your recycle bin after deleting the button off the desktop. If that doesnt work, try re-installing the program and make sure to look for and uncheck the box that may say saomething like: Add an icon to your desktop.' Since a program like that probably updates when you turn on your computer, the icon will show up and you'll probably have to do the second thing.

The offending shortcut is probably in the Desktop folder at the All User profile rather than in your profile. This being the case, even though you delete the shortcut from your desktop view, you're not really deleting it, you're just removing it from the current view, and whenever you restart the machine, the All User profile pops it right back up on the desktop. To really delete the shortcut, right-click on the Start button, select Explore All Users, go to Documents and Settings, All Users, open the Desktop folder, find and delete the shortcut, then close the Documents and Settings folder. Next time you restart, the shortcut will not appear.

1. Uninstall the application. 2. Install a startup monitoring application like http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml 3. Install the webcam application again, this time selecting "no" to any startup types the application wants to write. This way the application will not run on startup, but I'm willing to bet your icon situation will not happen using this methd.

Hmm... So your computer is recreating the shortcut on your desktop on start-up? You could always try to trick it into thinking that it still exists by hiding it: right click on the icon, chose "properties", select the "general" tab, There should be a check box (towards the bottom) that says "hidden", check it. hit "apply" The icon should have disappeared, but it still exists so it shouldn't be recreated.

******THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. I PROMISE. LEAVE IT TO THE GIRL****** Go to your start tab. Find control Panel. Go into it. Look for ADD/REMOVE programs. Go into that. It will then bring up your programs that can be altered or deleted. It will definitely be there. Find the list, it is in alphabetical order. When you find it, hit the "Change/Remove" button and it will uninstall. Done. If you put it in the recycle bin, you are just deleting the icon. Good Luck!!

go to the start menu and unistal it. then go into the local disk, program files, and then find your program and delete the file. (the file will then go to the recycling bin go there and delete it from there)

Jon S

go into control panel>add or remove programs>look for the program and then remove it, should completely take it off your computer.

Just put the icon in the recycle bin. It works for me, all the time.

Is the webcam in your startup folder? Delete it from there, if so. It won't remove the program itself.
