How do i make a non-fill shape on photoshop?

  • im using photoshop and want to make a square shape. when i do it automatically fills itself in with a colour. but i want to make the colour go away so its clear so i can the background design. so how do i create a no fill shape or make the shape have no fill or go clear? thanksx

    There are several ways (as with almost everything in Photoshop). You can use a shape. A shape is just an object on a new layer that has different styles and properties. Draw your shape then open it's layer and you can adjust the fill color, shadow effects, opacity etc. from there. Another way is to use the marquee selection tools and then go to Edit > Stroke and just have an outline. You can also use the Paint Bucket and fill the marquee. If you do this on a new layer you'll find you can also use the layer style tools to manipulate the marquee exactly as if you used a shape.
