Microsoft Outlook 2010 Error Messages?

  • I purchased Microsoft Outlook 2010 and am having some trouble setting up the program to receive mail from my internet e-mail accounts. I keep getting 2 error messages when I open the program; the first is "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action". Then, when I click "ok" on that error message, the information box to enter the Microsoft Exchange server and mailbox name pops up. No matter if I click "cancel", "close" or "ok" I get the error message "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. the file C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\O… is not a data file (.ost)." I tried repairing the program as well as uninstalling and re-installing it and nothing changed. I'm not sure why, and I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

    My computer have like 20 desktop with outlook on them so i deal with these outlook problem all the time. Some time it is hard to figure out what's the exact cause of the problem Usually i do a PST repair first and make sure the email database is not corrupted. If outlook still not working after PST repair it should be network problem or setting problem

If you do not have a Microsoft Exchange Server to log onto, when you set up your email addresses in FILE>> ACCOUNT SETTINGS, in the 'Chose Service' window for a New Account setup, specify 'Internet Email' and not Microsoft Exchange or compatible service' I suggest you delete the accounts you have set up and go through the wizard again, making sure that after each one, you click the 'Test Account Settings' button that will verify it can connect to your account and send a test email for you.
