How can I get digital tv/cable on my Mac?

Is there any GOOD reason to get a Mac?

  • I'd like to buy a mac, possibly an old imac or mac book (the green one!), but I haven't decided if I should even bother. If they are just as usable as a PC, then I have no reason NOT to buy one, but I was wondering if there are any really good reasons to get one. I'm not a fanboy either way, so no need to get salty, but I just think that the majority of reasons for people switching to mac are ridiculous. They look cool, that's why people get them. But is there any legitimate reason to get one? Can they do anything PCs can't? or vice versa? if i get a mac with os 9 will i be unhappy?

  • Answer:

its a different platform... just like going to Linux or anything else, there are tons of differences. Reasons for going or not going are usually very personal and subjective though. There are plenty of language differences in programming... Mac OS 9 is VERY VERY old and crappy... you shouldn't really look for any Mac today that doesn't at bare minimum have an Intel processor. The question you ask would need 10 pages of reply to just scratch the surface though... most all you will get is Mac lovers or PC lovers trying to push their own likes on you. It all comes down to what you like, and what works good for you... not what some other person likes. You'll never really know for sure until you try it out for awhile.

I use and own several PCs and Macs. The best reason I can think of to get a Mac is that is a lot easier to use, it doesn't have all the little quirks and headaches that Windows suffers from over time, and also Mac software seems to be a lot easier to get something productive done. Of course you also pay a price premium for this luxury. Don't go buying any outdated rubbish that has OS9. Get a Mac that has an Intel processor and it will be possible to run Windows on it as well so you get the best of both worlds.

mac is only meant for extrema video editing and people who switch to macs I say are stupid because they dont know that PC can be upgraded and be many times faster than a mac and low price as i said mac is for video editing PC can do extrema video editing too. and the other bad side about macs is that Apple makes them every few years and if you want to make your current mac fast you have to know that there is limited upgrades. Also one of the things that PC cant do on mac is Facetime wich is Apples video chatting software. Plus you can get a hot gaming PC wich is more dazzling than macs

Hi. Macs are very good when it comes to making home-videos, presentations, photo editing, graphic designs, etc. The coding will be ok, MAC OS has done a great job for trying to make compatible as many things as possible with PC. Macs also cannot have viruses, so that risk disappears when you buy one. Also they don't freeze like PCs do, which is really good. They are more dynamic to use. They are just better, they go smoothly and all programmes work on it perfectly. I have had one for more than a year and no problems. Although If you are going to buy MAC OS 9, which is old, buy a PC or buy a Macbook which are MARVELLOUS! I'd get a Mac if I could!:)

If you get a Mac with OS 9 you definitely will be unhappy - Apple stopped development of that OS around the same time XP was released, well over 10 years ago now. If you try to upgrade to OS X then most of the programs will simply stop working - upgrading a Mac OS usually causes more problems than a Windows OS upgrade, especially with such a huge difference between OS 9 and OS X. There really is no special reason as far as functionality is concerned. PCs and Macs more or less use the same hardware now. Windows has much more software available for it, so there's no reason to switch on that account - unless there's some program you're especially keen on using.

Legitimate reasons: graphic artist (they've been using Macs forever), iPhone/iPad software developer (proprietary Apple stuff), and showing off, like people who purchase sports cars to drive them 10Mph less than the speed limit. I don't recommend non Intel Macs, finding software for them will be nearly impossible. Besides, they're old, so they're super slow, and the OS is obsolete full of vulnerabilities.

Macs do pretty much the same thing as PCs, minus gaming. That, and they generally cost more. Oh, and you can't upgrade parts, you need to buy a new mac for that.

Go to the Apple Store, talk to the guys at the Genius Bar. Get someone who knows about coding and your interests. Be honest and tell them nothing about what you want to buy and how you plan to buy. Get them to persuade you that it is the best thing since popcorn. I was a Windows based computer teacher for 25 years. I retired and transferred to iMac. Love not having to worry about viruses, trojans, adware, malware etcetera. I just use the system for doing what I want, when I want but how I want is a bit predetermined by things like iPhoto and iTunes. Apart from those I love it. Jonah
