What are .cue files and how to separate a large flac file?

Are BIN/CUE files smaller than AVI files?

  • Okay, so I was able to burn a vcd using a cuesheet. The movie itself was about 810mb and I was able to watch the entire movie on a 700 mb cd. However, when I try to burn an avi file into a cd, it says there isn't enough space. What's the deal? Should I convert all my avi files to BIN/CUE. The only way I know how to convert AVI to BIN/CUE is to burn the movie first. Any advice, tips, or suggestions?

  • Answer:

NOOOO! Don't do that! First off, if you'll notice... you said that the movie was 810mb and the disk was 700. That means it was automatically converted to a different file type to begin with (in order to get it all on there). That's OK, that works. But the video files must have a different kind of executable than the BIN/CUE. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME TYPE OF FILE. It will not work. If you want that movie on the CD, compress it to MPEG2. Then burn. It won't work on every player there is, but it will work on some. Do the same thing onto a DVD disk and it will play on any DVD player. Incidentally, AVI files are HUGE in comparison to some other types of compression. One could argue that AVI uses no compression. However, most video files these days do. MPEG2 is still the most common video compression format.
