What is a good, but simple, video editing program I can use to lighten AVI files taken from my video camera?

My friend recommended Adobe Premier, but to be quite honest, I'm not looking for anything that big and fancy. I'm not wanting to edit some full length hollywood movie here. I just want to edit some videos taken from my digital camera. I have a few vids that are really good, but they are just so dark. I would like to permanently lighten and alter some of these, so I can E-mail them off to friends and family. Thank you for any recommendations you may have! :)

Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. windows movie maker, it comes with every computer, thats windows of course, lol open the avi file in that and then add effects, brighten video and your video will brighten. fun. fast. simple. and it doesnt cost anything. :] hope that helped
