How to create a boot CD from an already burned one?

How do I create a LiveCD for Mint Linux on Ubuntu 10.04?

  • I wanted to download Ubuntu on my laptop but for some reason, it wouldn't load from the image on my LiveCD. I decided that I would go with something a little more resource-friendly: Mint Linux 9. I downloaded the entire package on a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04. I put in a blank DVD but I do NOT know how to burn a Live CD. My laptop (not the one with Ubuntu), has Windows on it. And several viruses that have eaten away the MBR. I hate Windows and I am moving entirely over to Linux. It won't even boot to Windows anymore. I used Gparted on it to boot but I get the BSOD saying "Unmountable boot volume" now. I want to just put in the Live CD and boot straight to Mint Linux 9; I can't open it in Windows as I can't even boot to it anymore. I have the image, the boot folder, and the executable on the Ubuntu computer but when I put in the blank DVD, I don't see anything that allows me to burn it to the disk. I can drag and drop but it won't burn onto the DVD. Please, someone help me with this. Thank you, in advance.

  • Answer:

You cannot create a bootable cd the same way you create regular disks. You must open the iso file with a special program that can burn image disks. On Ubuntu, right click the iso file and tell it to open with brasero. It will autodetect the disk, all you have to do is accept the defaults. Also, you should not need a dvd for Mint or Ubuntu as they are less than 700MB in size. If you want to burn a bootable disk on Windows you need to download Infrarecorder. Burning a Gparted disk is the same way, but most distros include it with the live cd. If you got a BSOD, chances are it was trying to boot Windows.
