How to use dial up in ubuntu 10.4?

Is Ubuntu stable and does it have a interface that is easy to use?

  • I'm ordering a dedicated server for a friend and I need to know which operating system is best meaning less CPU usage and is very clean and stable.I am thinking of going with Ubuntu but I need a OS that has a interface that is easy to use meaning I don't have to run commands to use programs and I can just click on things like a Windows OS. The Dedicated Specs: DUAL Nehalem Quad-Core E5504 2.0 Ghz Hard Drive: 500GB SATA Memory: 12 GB Ram DDR3 Bandwith: 4000GB w/1000Mbps Port Now the Ubuntu versions are here: Ubuntu 8.x 32-Bit Ubuntu 8.x 64-Bit Ubuntu 9.04 64-Bit Which version has what i'm talking about and is the easiest to use /stablest.

  • Answer:

Based on your specs, that Big Boy won't even care about "less CPU usage"!!! The beauty of Ubuntu (FREE and stable) is the "Live CD" feature is included with all 3 Distros listed. So, you can test each on your hardware, and, try their shared Server App, without having to install it on your server PC's hard drive. And, it's "ease of use" will quickly become apparent. TIP: Start with Ubuntu 9.04 64-Bit Server Edition, which is different than the Desktop versions listed above, if you want a Dedicated Server, it's likely all you'll need:

Well..... Yes for the last version you said. I don't know why you are asking this. I am an UBUNTU computer technician I say It has a great and easy interface and TOTALLY safe.

Ubuntu is very stable and very easy to use especially with apt software system. I would suggest Ubuntu Server or Desktop Edition (with server edition you will need to install a desktop environment if you want it) 9.04 64-bit. I use it on all of my servers.

Ubuntu is stable. For a quad-core I would go with Ubuntu 8.x 64-bit. Actually both the eight and nine series use a lot more memory and cpu usage than most distros or Ubuntu used to. The user interface is X-Windows. If you saw NASA or University computers on TV or in movies in the late eighties and early nineties that is what they were running. Linux is a Unix-derived OS and Ubuntu is as easy as Ubuntu ever gets. You can just click on things, though it requires a little technical knowledge. Frankly for a server I'd just as quickly recommend Debian Lenny.
