How do i get 720p video down to a 700MB file?
-
I was watching a copy of the new Pirates of the Caribbean. The video resoution was the standard 1280x5** that they use in a widescreen 720p shot. The movie was 2h 16m long and the file was only 750mb... Here is what it says the codec specs are. Video ----- Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Duration : 2h 16mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 732 Kbps Width : 1280 pixels Height : 544 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.35:1 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Credits : Intact Audio ----- Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : HE-AACv2 / HE-AAC / LC Duration : 2h 16mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 32.0 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R / Front: C / Front: C Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Language : English To me the movie looked great (for a 750mb) version. I'd rather be saving 1GB+ space or more per movie if i could convert my files to this much smaller size. Any free converters that are simple and would get me these file sizes. I'm not very well versed in compression and file conversion. Thank you.

Things are not always what they seem. Since the beginning of time man has tried to put lead in and get gold out. As a basic rule, HD (high definition) is 1080 which is a huge file. Some DVD players and TV's do what is called upscaling or upconverting. This is taking a 420 stanard def movie (regular DVD movie) and giving it 720 or 1080 lines. The idea is that it is now HD.... well in theory yes since it has 720/1080 lines. BUT it was not HD going in. Look at your monitor.... now move your face closer and closer. The closer you get, the more your field of view is filled with your monitor. The image did not get any better tho. This is in essence what upscaling is doing. There just simply is not enough room on a DVD to handle true 1080HD. Enter blu ray..... The blu ray reads the data coming in (hence the blu light and the name) rather then after it passes and reading it going out (red ray). This means it can grab and process more data. It is also a much larger disk so can hold a lot more data. So all people did was take a DVD movie, that is 480 and converted it to 720. What they DID NOT do was make it HD. They just upscaled the image. So to answer your question, you can use something like freemake video converter. Drop the movie in and click on the output type you want on the bottom (mp4 or mkv for example) click on edit presets and tell it 720p. It will upscale it to that. But since you put lead in, you are still gonna get lead out. Just in a different shape. It is kinda a waste of time tho. Most HD TV's made after 2005 will do the same thing without the need to covert it. Again it will not be true HD tho. Just an illusion by stretching 480 lines into 720. On the other hand you can take a blu ray movie. Reduce the fps to 23, delete all the unwanted stuff like multiple audio tracks, subtitles, menus and things to get it much smaller. But you will never get it to 700MB or Sony wasted a lot of time and money inventing a blu ray laser... lol when all they had to do was download a free converter and upscale it.
