  • Answer:

Just boot from the xp CD. It will let you select which drive you want to format, what file system you want to use, and will even let you delete and create partitition. Here is a Microsoft webpage that may help you out. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941/en-us

first copy all the ncessary data from d:(Xp) and store in e:. Go to dos prompt and then format the d: drive. Now enter the xp os cd into the cd drive and then restart your system. Now it will ask you where to boot from. (Press any key to boot from cd.... will be the prompt). Make sure that your boot priority is cd drive.(This you can change in the CMOS settings). Now it will ask you a series of questions. At a level, it asks you for formatting the drive. Now select d: drive and dont forget to specify, (Format the drive using NTFS file system). Then proceed on to install XP. Hope this works fine.

If you have a proper WinXP version that allows you to install it OVER another OS.. First you should install the OLD Win9x then you install XP. - While running your Win9x, insert the Windowx XP CD, it will Auto Run. - A screen will show and ask you wether you want to "UPDATE" your Windows version or you wanna install a new Windows. it is IMPORTANT to select the second option to keep your old Windows. This will allow you to choose between your Windows versions when starting your computer. good luck.
