How to make zero values appear as "-" on Excel?
-
Is there a way to make all zero values in an Excel worksheet appear is the "-" symbol?
-
Answer:
The most efficient way to display zero values as "-" is with a number format in the Normal Cell Style for the workbook. On the Home tab of the Ribbon, locate the Normal style and right-click on it. Select "Modify..." from the menu. Then from the Style dialog, click the Format button near the top. On the Format Cells dialog select the Number tab at the top and then select Custom from the Category list. Locate the "Type:" field. It probably has the text, "General" displayed in it. Replace the word, General with: #;#;-;@ It is very important to copy the above text exactly. Click OK and then OK again. This may seem like a little more work to setup, but modifying the Normal Cell Style as suggested here is by far the most efficient way to display hyphens in place of zero values throughout the entire workbook. By efficient, I mean that Excel is doing less work to maintain the display. Note that following this suggestion will only affect the workbook that is visible when you make this change. All other workbooks will be unaffected by the procedure.
