How can I open files with the extension .ef?

Where does Quickbooks store its data files and what extension do the files have?

  • I want to automatically backup critical Quickbooks data WITHOUT using the File -> Backup feature. Hence, I would need to know which files I need to backup (e.g. what's the extension of the files) and where they are located. Thanks.

  • Answer:

the file extension of quickbook files is .QBW and you will find your data file in the Quickbooks folder..usually the default is C:/Quickbooks unless you elected to move it to different location

I don't use quickbooks all the time and I've just started using the software. What I've gathered is that there is more than one file format (Sorry, forget the extensions), and if you save them both, they will not open on a separate (unlicensed) copy of quickbooks. The input data is automatically placed into it's own separate folder, but I can't access any of the data unless I open quickbooks. Maybe someone more experienced can help you out on that one,

I agree with panda64. The easiest way to find the data file location is to press the F2 button with QuickBooks active. This will open an information window that includes the exact location and name of the data file in use.
