How do you make transparent text on gimp?

Using text in flyer design question?

• I have just taken on the task of designing flyers for our group, I have no experience with this. This may seem like a really stupid question, but how do you make the text go from margin to margin? So no matter how big or small the font is, it fits the same width across the page? So it looks like one block? I use open office draw and gimp. I have attached the url that displays the image.   Usually it's called "justified" text. Highlight the text, and hit the justify icon. You can also manually adjust the spacing between letters in some programs, which is called kerning, you can sometimes find options for it in text or paragraph options.
