How can I install MSN on Windows XP?

Windows XP install disk wont install?

  • After getting a virus I wanted to reinstall windows XP on my laptop, however when I booted from my Windows XP install disk, the operating system loaded from the disk but before I could do anything, I got a bluescreen error message: --------------------------------Error message: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable memory options such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advances setup options, and then select safe mode. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0xF748E0BF,0xF78DA208,0xF78D… *** pci.sys – Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, DateStamp 3b7d855c ------------------------------------ This seems to be a message for a windows installation rather than an install disk so I don’t know what to do. I deleted pci.sys, no effect. There ‘is’ enough disk space. This is an old install disk and a reasonably new laptop, so I don’t think the BIOS is too old and there weren’t any memory options in the BIOS to change. I originally got Windows XP on this laptop by taking the hard disk from my old broken laptop and putting it in my new laptop, unfortunately I can’t do this again as the old laptop doesn’t work. Any ideas how I can reinstall Windows? Could my install disk be out of date, as I got the same message with another new laptop, but not on a slightly older desktop. But though XP is old, surely it's not 'that' old?

If I'm interpreting your information correctly, it sounds like your system didn't actually boot to the Windows XP install disk. Typically you would only get that sort of blue screen message if your computer is still booting to your existing Windows installation. If this is the case, you need to make sure that your CD/DVD drive has the highest boot priority. You can change this when your computer first powers on and you see the manufacturer's "splash screen". You should see which keys you need to press to enter setup (BIOS) or boot order. Often pressing F12 will allow you to change your boot order. Other keys that are frequently used to enter setup are F2 and DEL (see the Youtube video mentioned below). If your install disk is set up to boot first then you'll see a message that says: "Press any key to boot from CD.." (here's a picture: http://www.adminxp.com/windowsxp/instxp1a.png ). If you press a key when that shows up you'll boot into the Windows installation disk and you should be able to continue to reinstall Windows without any problems. Here's a good Youtube video that show the whole process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf2Ffm33DhA If you still see that error message when you do boot to the install disk then you might have a problem with your BIOS configuration or your hardware. Most likely it's just a driver problem that can be fixed by reinstalling Windows though. Good luck!

I recently had the same problem, turns out the hard drive has had it. If you have another pc and a housing for your hard drive, you could try connecting it via USB then reformatting the drive. (My computer, right click on the drive and select format)
