How can I toggle caps lock when the caps lock key is remapped?

Why does my Microsoft Word document get stuck in caps lock even when caps lock is not on?

  • I checked and rechecked and the Caps Lock is definitely off. When I type it stays in caps. I can change it after by selecting the text and using the "Change case" option in the Format menu. But when I keep typing it stays in caps.

  • Answer:

Go to Edit-Select All or CTRL+A Go to Format - Font -Font Tab uncheck - All Caps [checkbox]

I suspect your default font has gotten set to All Caps. Here's how to fix it for all future files. (This will work for Word XP (2002) and adjacent versions.) 1. Click in the text, the click the Format->Styles and Formatting menu item. 2. The Styles sidebar should pop up on the right. The paragraph style (probably Normal) should be highlighted in the lower part of the sidebar. Scroll down if you need to to find it. 3. Hover the cursor over the style name, then click the listbox arrow that appears and select Modify. 4. Click the Format button and select Font. 5. Under Effects, Small Caps or All Caps should be selected. Deselect it. 6. OK out of everything. Now to make it permanent. 1. Click the Tools->Organizer menu item. A dialog box with two list boxes will appear. The left-hand list box will show the styles in your document' the right-hand will show the styles in the template your document is based on (probably Normal.dot). 2. In the left-hand list box, find the style you just changed and select it. 3. The Copy>> button will enable. Click it to copy the style to the template. 4. Click Close. 5. When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to the Global template. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dot. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it. Any new documents created with the template will now use this style. Hope that helps.

It's probably set on the program to have everything in Caps. Go up to the menu bar and expand the 'Format' menu. Click on the first choice 'Font' and a box should open with more font options. Clear the checkbox that says 'All Caps' or 'Small Caps'. Hope this wasnt too confusing.

possibly the font being using is capital, or caps lock key is jammed, or shift key is jammed, check word prefs as well, type 4 $ along top row of keyboard, if $ sign appears, then shift is jammed, if not , check other keys on board, and num lock on, try reboot, may be glitch with other software running, ..
