How do i switch back to vista view from classic?

Windows 7, Vista, Long Story! Help!?

  • Hi, I couldnt think of a good title that summed up my worried is so little words, So sorry about that. Its kind of a long story and I'm not really sure I understand it myself to be honest but here we go: Okay so around July/August kind of time I bought a computer off of Ebay (I know you shouldnt but I dont have much money so I had no other choice really.) Anyway, when I baught it the computer was on a trial of Windows 7 Ultimate but the Windows Vista was still there. Now though the Windows 7 has run out and now everytime I turned it on it comes up with something saying I might valiate it because it isnt genuine. Its been saying this since around october/november and I'm getting sick of i now. I dont have enough money to buy the windows 7 (or vista for that matter) but if the Vista is still there could I just switch back to that? I dont mind if I loose most of my stuff, i just want it be to genuine again so I dont have to worry. What confuses me is that all of my things are in the Vista folder and there isnt one that says Windows 7....? Is there a simple way to do this? I dont know. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2ni2rg5&s=5 Please help, I'm very confused. I have some more information but I do not know what it relevent and what isnt and I cant sit here and write this all day. Thankx. Byee xx

  • Answer:

First thing you must do is back up your data. You don't know if that copy of Windows is not running trojans, spyware, etc, so, it's better to erase the drive. It seems they installed Windows 7 without a key, or a pirated one. You can reinstall Vista, only if the laptop has the serial number sticker (in laptops they're under, sometimes behind the battery). Only problem is obtaining a Windows Vista install DVD, or repair disc for that laptop model... You can contact Microsoft and/or the laptop manufacturer to see how much they charge. Another option is downloading and installing Linux, which is free, for example, Linux Mint. Windows is 2008R2 is $0 if you're a student (search "dreamspark" in Microsoft webpage). Home Server 2011 is $50, but, many free commercial software aren't free in servers, especially antiviruses, on-line backup, etc.
