Could I be getting sued twice for downloading music?

How is it that not every person using emule or limewire is getting arrested for downloading music?

  • well it's illegal to download music from emule and limewire right? Millions of people are using the program for downloading music but not everyone are getting arrested for it. Why? How'd they get by without getting caught?

  • Answer:

    Copyright people mainly target or concentrate on big companies, business ,corporation(like kazaa,limewire, big torrent site) or individual (who share and upload files ) (like that lady sued and fined $200,000). They don't concentrate much on individual who are downloading (doesn't means they are not targeted. Some may get warning, other get out-of-court settlement ...but at present, very few people are targeted in this category) getting proof,lawsuit etc is lengthy and costly process, therefore individual downloading are not their priority.

Simply because there are 'millions' of people using it, and the police have better things to do than arrest and charge a million people.

It would probably be impossible to prosecute everyone doing it, so they prosecute a few to show people that they can get caught for downloading music illegally.

The cost of going after all such people would be prohibitive. So the enforcement bodies have to be selective and go after the most heinous of offenders, and make enough noise to cause people to think about what they are doing, and hopefully ( for them ) to stop as a result....

Funny you should say that. A woman in the USA was fined a substantial amount yesterday for sharing music files. She fought it in court but lost and has one big fine to pay. Something like $200,000 P2P is not safe.
