How do I update only a specific svn external on first update?

How can I reinstall Win XP Update on my second hard drive if Win 98 was originally on my first drive?

  • My old drive seems to be dying, and I have plenty of room on the second, but I think that I need to have the vestiges of Win 98 to install the XP Update.

  • Answer:

You don't want to upgrade 98, it just leaves a bunch of junk arround from 98 that will cause problems down the road. You can do a fresh install of XP with an upgrade disk, porvided that you have the windows 98 cd. I would just transfer everything to the drive with 98 on it and then remove that drive from the computer and plug drive 2 into its cord (ide1,etc..) Then, boot to the XP cd and at some point early on, it will ask you to put the 98 cd in to check that you have it and then you will put the xp cd back in and continue. Early in the process, you are asked what partition to use and at this point it is best to get over top of drive 2's main partition and delete it (L i think) (PS: this is why you transfer everything off of drive 2 first) then return and tell xp to use the blank space and to do a full NTFS format, now you are of and runing... next next yes i agree etc.... and xp will be installed the way it wants to be without any limitations or constraints. When you are done, you can install old drive 1 as drive 2 and transfer the data you want to your fresh xp install.

If you have the XP CD then use it to Newly install Xp on to Another Drive. Select a drive on the the other HD when the blue screen for partition choice shows up. Upgrade will overwrite your Win 98 in to XP. XP will be on the drive 98s in.

You first hard drive and second hard drive are independent of one another. Just uninstall Win 98 on you first hard-drive then down load form Microsoft windows update and install it. They will walk you stept by stept.
