How do I convert the image into ASCII format?

How do I convert documents from image format to text format?

  • I have downloaded a document on to Word and it is being displayed as an image rather than text, I don't know why this happens. I need to convert the document to text so I can edit it. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank You

  • Answer:

In Word, right click on the image and use "Save as Picture". If you have an older version you'll have to print screen the page. Depending what OCR you are using you may have to change the image format. MS Office already has built in OCR capabilities either in Document Imaging or OneNote. Document Imaging is very good but not usually part of the standard MS Office install so you may need to go to "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" in your Control Panel. Find MS Office, right click on it and choose "Change". From the popup that appers choose "Add or Remove Features" and select Microsoft Office Document Imaging from the Tools section. The document needs to be in TIF format for the OCR to work. Your scanner may have other OCR you can try. I've had scanners that have come with TextBridge, PaperPort or OmniPage - all from Nuance - http://nuance.com/ There is other free OCR software around. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14595/ocr-anything-with-onenote-2007-and-2010/ http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-5-free-ocr-software-tools-to-convert-your-images-into-text-nb/
