What can i get for my laptop?

How can i fix what looks like a virus on laptop? I cannot get to my desktop fom start up or use task manager?

  • when I load up my pc it show my desktop like normal but before I can do anything, what looks like, Internet explorer pops up followed by a Virus detection screen. This has no "x" in the corner to close the window, takes up the whole screen and I cannot alt cnt del out of it either, only option is on the virus warning it asks if i want to go to my homepage, when I click this it takes me to ask.com (not my usual homepage), this again takes up the full screen and I cannot close the window, hitting escape does nothing and when I use alt control del here it takes me to the selection screen I would normally find (with task manager / switch user etc) but the task manager option is not there. I only had this today so have not had a chance to look at it properly yet, I am thinking abuot trying to get in using safe mode but have no idea what to start looking at to prevent / clear laptop of. I have looked everywhere on the internet for similar problems but have not found anyone with same symptoms. I cannot access my desktop or start menu when I load up normally so safe mode seems only way to fix? any comments advice would be great thanks in advance

    This happened to me last year and wiping my hard drive and reinstalling windows fixed it for me. Its a pain, but its worth it as any lingering viruses will be wiped and windows reinstalled and cleared of any bugs

When I had a virus on my computer, I opened it in safe mode then ran a scan on it. It put the virus into the virus vault. I then was able to restart normally and ran another scan just to be on the safe side.
