Convert AVI file to QUALITY mp4 file?

  • I've just downloaded a movie in an AVI file, only to find that AVI files don't play on my iPod. It's a 4th Gen iPod Nano, so I've got movies from iTunes which are in mp4 format. I do know quite a bit about computers, I do the whole free songs & movies type of thing, and lots of free downloads of programs. I don't know if that helps, but I thought I'd add that in. So I need a suggestion on a GOOD QUALITY avi to mp4/iPod converter ASAP. If you do know any ones which work, and that YOU use, not like someone said this works, 'cause ones I've tried, the actual video is delayed, so the audio is all stuffed. Hopefully some genius knows a great converter, and it doesn't have to be freeware, but try to keep the cost small! So Mr or Mrs genius, come help me please!!!!!!
