What is the difference between a UPGRADE Windows Vistaa and NON UPGRADE Windows Vistaa?

Upgrade options for Windows 2000 Server -> Windows 2003 Server SBS. What do I need to buy? Upgrade?

  • Microsoft Upgrades and licensing require a Masters Degree to understand! Only Veritas is worse. But I digress.... I would like to upgrade an account from Windows 2000 Server w/ 45 CALS and Citrix XP to Windows 2003 SBS. Exactly which product do I need to purchase from Microsoft? Will my Win2K server user CALS be valid with Win2003 or is there an upgrade path for those as well as the software? I'm imagining that I can purchase an upgrade version of the core server software and use or upgrade my Windows 2000 CALS to Windows 2003 CALS. I'm so confused. I will also mention that the existing piece of hardware is being retired and this new Server OS is going to be loaded onto new Equipment. Does this fact mean that I can't take advantage of an upgrade and must purchase a full version of Win2003? Thank you!
