How to migrate from Ubuntu to Fedora?

Whats better, Fedora 9 or Ubuntu 8.04?

  • just wondering because I've been using Ubuntu for a while and just wanted to know what other people think, I'm downloading the Fedora 9 live CD now

  • Answer:

To: whoever If you like commercially supported software so much you might as well go kiss Microsoft To: all Opensource supported OS is good Debian is one good example their Apt-get is good I do not condemn any OS Fedora is good as Ubuntu except they tend to use it as a test platform for the commercial Red Hat Linux But Ubuntu is free and stable but not so compared to Debian but some people feel Debian is dated because of the release cycle Ubuntu can be considered as a cutting edge Debian

It's ok. I like Debian. Fedora is based off Red Hat, Ubuntu is based off Debian. http://distrowatch.com/

Fedora is better than Ubuntu in my opinion, its sponsored by Redhat and has a lof of their technologies and has many of the latest software but just don't try their kde cause just like ubuntu's kde their kde is horrible to.

Fedora 9 http://fedoraproject.org/ and Ubuntu 8.04.1 http://www.ubuntu.com/ are quite different, the Gnome desktop being where similarity ends. Ubuntu if you are just starting out with Linux is very much more user friendly, whereas Fedora based on Red Hat is all together more involved. For me I prefer the older Ubuntu 7.10 of the two. Others worth considering are Linux Mint 5.0 'Elyssa' http://www.linuxmint.com/ or if you are up to something more challenging then look at Sabayon Linux 3.5 http://www.sabayonlinux.org/ which is quite awesome. Linux Mint 11
