The Sims 2 - "Conflict with Emulation software detected"...?
-
I've recently purchase some Sims 2 Expansion packs for my game and I have problems running it. I get the "Conflict with emulation software detected" error. I know it has to do with SecuROM which has something to do with copying softwares and that this could be caused because I have a illegal copy, but I don't. All are from my personal collection, with the original CD keys. I don't have Daemon Tools, Nero, Alcohol 120%, or Clone CD installed. Or any other emulation software that I know of.. I had these installed before and the worked fine.. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe The Sims 2 University The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bath Now I am also installing these which don't work.. The Sims 2 Apartment Life The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff The SIms 2 Mansions and Garden The disk are not boot legged, I paid good money for each any every one of them and I really wish they would WORK! My fiance and I have been reading forums trying to fix this problem but We've had no luck. How can I disable the emulators, bypass the SecuROM crap, or actually.. I don't really care how it is done as long as I can get them working?

Answer:
Congratulations, you're one of "just a few" people who have been incorrectly identified as "software pirates" by SecuROM. My suggestion is to call EA and inform them of the issue. They will probably treat you like the criminal scum they're sure you are and tell you that you need to remove such-and-such program you're not using. If they don't help you (which, as I mentioned, they probably won't), then I recommend you go download a real-life bootlegged copy of the game via BitTorrent (thepiratebay.org surely has these available). The fact is that the actual pirated versions of EA games have had SecuROM stripped out of them, so you won't have to worry about it locking you out of the game you paid for. I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on the internet. But my system of ethics tells me that if you paid for a game (or music, or whatever) and you're attempting to use it under the license that you have purchased and cannot (usually do to DRM), then you're perfectly within your rights to obtain a copy through whatever means are available that WILL work. I am a strong proponent against pirated software. Do not download software you do not own. I'm not telling you to do that here. However, I do recognize that in a vein attempt to "stop" pirates, many content providers (especially EA) have instituted "draconian" DRM schemes that tend to cause trouble for legitimate users, but merely act as mild stumbling points for pirates. Don't download software you don't own. But if EA is keeping you from using software you DO own, then I don't see any reason why they should complain if you take steps to make that software work.
